OWAIS SHEIKH

PhD student at UHEI and ICIQ

About me

I earned my B.Sc.-M.Sc. at the University of Copenhagen with a major in Organic synthesis and a minor in Medicinal Chemistry.

For my master’s thesis, I focused on developing OLED´s in a 10-step synthesis for future AFM/STM study, for understanding of antiaromatic/aromatic properties.

During my bachelor I embarked in two projects, focusing on Trifluromethylation with palladium and lactone formation with iron.

Each of these projects have shaped me to experience methodology, screening and large/micro-scale reactions. Making me proficient in modern lab techniques, analytical measurements, conducting experiments and optimizing synthetic routes.

In my day-to-day work, I like to plan into the future, focusing on gathering background knowledge, failure analysis, and pushing the project towards the end. I also take interest in others research projects to broaden my scope of understanding. While these aspects of my role remain consistent, I remain adaptable to tackle new challenges that may arise.

I am looking forward to my next academic chapter as a PhD candidate at UHEI/BASF-CaRLa and very eager to collaborate with ICIQ.
