About me
I received my Bachelor’s degree in Industrial Chemistry from the University of Bologna (Italy) in 2021, followed by a Master’s degree in the same degree programme in 2023.
During my studies, I had the opportunity to attend an internship at the company “Reagens S.P.A. Italy” to study the mechanism of thermal stabilisation of PVC at high temperatures using zinc-barium thermal stabilisers. This experience was followed by an internship for my Master’s thesis at the Department of “Applied Electrochemistry and Catalysis” (ELCAT) of the University of Antwerp (BE), where I focused on the development and optimisation of a new series of bismuth-based electrocatalysts for the electro-reduction of CO2 to formic acid using a state-of-the-art high-temperature electrolyser. These experiences, combined with my previous academic studies, provided me with the skills to fully analyse and manage the incredible world of catalysis and polymers, leading me to understand the challenges of process scale-up.
I decided to venture into this exciting journey such as the D-Carbonize project because of its perfect combination of academic and industrial institutions, which will allow me to gain more experience in researching and developing new pathways in the Carbon Capture and Utilisation (CCU) approach, using a circular economy strategy and making a concrete effort to mitigate global warming. My studies at the University of Groningen (The Netherlands) will focus on optimising the catalytic pathway to synthesise glycerol carbonate from accessible and available reagents such as glycerol and CO2. Further studies on glycerol carbonate will follow at the Technological Institute of Plastics AIMPLAS (Spain) for the production of bio-based and recyclable polymers, using reaction processes that can be easily scaled up to achieve higher production volumes. The recyclability of the resulting product will be investigated in the last phase of this project at the polymer industry POLYKEY (Spain).
