ANGELO SCOPANO

PhD student at RUG and ICIQ

About me

I graduated with my bachelor degree from University of Padova, Italy. My bachelor thesis focused on the development of a method for the visual identification of smart drugs using supramolecular sensors, under the guidance of Professor Fabrizio Mancin. After that, I continued on the way of chemistry and found my path in carbon dioxide utilization. After having spent 6 months in my Erasmus program at KU Leuven, Belgium, I had my research intern in the field of photocatalysis and organic synthesis under the supervision of Professor Luca Dell’Amico. My thesis aimed to trap carbon dioxide into biorelevant scaffolds. I finally obtained my master degree in Chemistry from the University of Padua at the end of 2021.

Beyond my academic background, I had two valuable job experiences. In 2022, I worked in Reckitt Benckiser as a Regulatory Affairs Intern, whereas in 2023 I worked as a project manager of two EU projects as a fellow of Professor Silvia Gross of the University of Padova. Noteworthy, in 2023 I have been awarded with my master in European project design from the Venice International University.

D-Carbonize is an opportunity for which I have had the honour of being selected, and it will be capable of providing the suitable tools to unveil reactivities, activating carbon dioxide and transforming it into a building block through breakthrough strategies. D-Carbonize aligns with my academic commitment and my passion for science and interdisciplinary studies. I trust that its European character and interdisciplinary structure provide the perfect substrate for magic to happen!
