Palladium-catalyzed methoxycarbonylation of a commodity CO2-sourced δ-valerolactone

The methoxycarbonylation of 3-ethylidene-6-vinyltetrahydro-2H-pyran-2-one (EVP), a commodity δ-valerolactone prepared by telomerization of CO₂ with butadiene, is reported. The py^tbpx ligand proved instrumental to achieve successful formation of the new carbonylation product.
